====== XMPP ======

GWDG operates an XMPP service. XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) is an open standard of the [[http://xmpp.org/ | XMPP Standards Foundation]]. It is also known under its former name "Jabber".


===== What are the prerequisites for use? =====

For the use of GWDG's XMPP service, a GWDG user account is needed. It is necessary to possess a UID. This is the case with most of our users.

The user is authorized by GWDG's LDAP service. Encryption is mandatory.
