The GWDG - Simple Language

Welcome to the website of the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen mbH. The abbreviation is GWDG. This is called gee double-u dee gee.

The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen (GWDG) is a computer center. It belongs to the Georg-August-University of Göttingen and the Max Planck Society. A computer center is a facility where many computer systems are operated. It also offers many software solutions. Scientists use these computer systems and software solutions for their research.

Tasks are for example:

• Offering software solutions
• Provide computer systems
• Store data securely and for a long time

Some people at the GWDG also do their own research. They are particularly well versed in the field of computer science. Computer science is their field of study. They ask, for example:

• How can scientists and researchers work together if they are not in the same place?
• How do we protect digital information so that it cannot be stolen?
• How can computer systems work even better together to use a lot of data at the same time?

The GWDG says: We want to pass on the knowledge of our researchers to young people. Some young people come to the GWDG and do an apprenticeship. Other young people do research with us. They later write a thesis at the university.
