SPSS

IBM SPSS Statistics is a program for statistical data analysis and has been developed since 1968 by SPSS Inc. (today IBM). The original name was “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences”. The program has a user-friendly graphical interface and contains the common methods of data analysis as well as several systems for the graphical representation of statistical data and characteristics.

The universities of the states of Lower Saxony and Bremen have joined together to form a consortium, led by the GWDG, in order to conclude a state framework agreement via the company Nexway (formerly Asknet AG), which regulates the purchase and use of the licenses of IBM Deutschland GmbH

Modules

An overview of the modules included in the SPSS Statistics Premium edition can be found here. These contain all common statistical procedures and offer extensive possibilities for the graphical presentation of data and results.

All employees and students of the University of Göttingen incl. the University Medical Center Göttingen and the GWDG, furthermore all employees of the so-called “An-Institutes” (e.g. Institute for Sugar Beet Research at the University of Göttingen)

Terms und Conditions of the License Contract

SPSS is licensed for research and educational purposes only. For research the usage is licensed for students and professors. But none of the following is permitted:

  • research or publish results in commercial applications
  • commercial consulting and support
  • training and education of persons which can not be enduser as defined by this contract
  • research for third party people as service, for money, or by instruction of this third party
  • any commercial use like leasing or hosting

Rental license (limited right to use the software incl. maintenance & support)

License period

Annually from 2020 to 2024

  1st year (1.7.2020-30.9.2021)
  2nd year (1.10.2021-30.9.2022)
  3rd year (1.10.2022-30.9.2023)
  4th year (1.10.2023-30.9.2024)

IMPORTANT: If the purchased license is no longer needed for the next billing period, timely cancellation is required by 06/30. Otherwise, a new license will automatically be issued and invoiced for the next billing period as well.

License fees

5,60 EUR / month plus VAT in the current license period

Download an Installation

After purchasing the license, you can download the SPSS installation files here. However, the download is only possible from universities in Lower Saxony and Bremen! Outside of these IT networks, a VPN connection to the GWDG is required before the download can be started.

SPSS and AMOS are available at the GWDG on the computer server “GWD-WinTSBio.top.gwdg.de”.

Access is possible remotely from any Windows or Macintosh computer on the GoeNET. Prerequisite for access is a GWDG account (nutzername@gwdg.de) or a student account (nutzername@stud.uni-goettingen.de), but only in the context of courses and master and bachelor theses.
