Guest-WiFfi -- GuestOnCampus
The guest WiFi of the GÖNET is called GuestOnCampus. Students and employees can use it with their mail address and password. Guests of the University Library and guests with an event voucher are also authorized.
From now on, every authorized user is allowed to sponsor their guests WiFi access. This can be done by merely three clicks for details see this article.
Please note:
- Employees and students should prefer the encrypted WiFi eduroam.
- GuestOnCampus is not encrypted and should only be used with encrypting protocols like https or VPN solutions.
- If your device does not recognize portal pages, just head to the page http://wlan.gwdg.de as your first stop.
- You have to re-authenticate after twelve hours.
GuestOnCampus is available at all WiFi locations of Göttingen University and of the five Max Planck Institutes in Göttingen. Shortly it will also be available in the lecture halls of the University Medical Center.
OpenCampus
In addition to the “GuestOnCampus” Wi-Fi network, we are also operating the “OpenCampus” Wi-Fi network on a trial basis. This is a guest Internet access service provided by the Göttingen Campus that does not require prior registration or a voucher, but it does have a few limitations:
- The speed is limited.
* Access to external resources, such as legally questionable websites, is partially restricted.
- Access to internal resources of Göttingen Campus institutions is not possible.
Unfortunately, this is necessary to prevent misuse.
Students and members of the Göttingen Campus should use the encrypted eduroam network. Only through this network is full Internet and intranet access provided.
The “OpenCampus” login page will inform you of the following:
- This Internet access is intended exclusively for use by invited guests of the University of Göttingen, the University Medical Center Göttingen, the Max Planck Institutes in Göttingen, the Göttingen Student Services (Studierendenwerk Göttingen), and the GWDG. This includes attendees of scientific conferences or project meetings, employees of service providers for the aforementioned institutions, registered library users, etc.
- Individuals who are on campus exclusively or primarily to use this Internet access are not considered invited guests under these Terms of Use and may not use this Internet access.
*In addition, the GWDG Terms of Use apply.
- Members of the Göttingen Campus institutions, including students, as well as guests from academic institutions may also use this Internet access; however, they should preferably use eduroam.
