Fileservice for Active Directory

To access the Windows network drives (archive, personal and group drives) from outside the GÖNET a VPN connection to the GWDG must be established.

Personal drive

Each registered user at the GWDG gets a home directory as a personal drive assigned to store personal data. This directory is normally limited to 200 GB. When required, the quota can be set higher. In such case send an email describing desired size of the personal drive to support@gwdg.de, note your request with the subject “Increase P-drive size”. In general, your personal drive connects automatically as P: \ when logging in Active Directory. If needed, you can establish manual network drive connection.

Common storage area

For every institute or department a shared folder can be set up to exchange files. To set up the common storage, please write an email to support@gwdg.de with the subject: “Common storage for institue/department”. Please provide your contact information to clarify details.

To ensure that only authorized users have access to the shared files and folders, the access-rights are handled using Share and NTFS Permissions. The final access permissions on a shared folder are managed through Active Directory groups, which can be administered independently by the responsible institute administrator.

In general, the shared folder connects automatically via login script as W: \ drive when logging in Active Directory. If needed, you can establish manual network drive connection.
